Hayley won’t be seeing Bon Jovi
Bon Jovi
Bon Jovi

WHEN Hayley Sheath almost died from a mystery virus her parents made her a promise on her hospital bed.

Two years ago the Bon Jovi mad youngster missed her idol's Southampton concert as she prepared for a heart transplant at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

So when the 14-year-old recovered her parents vowed to take her to see the American rock legend at his next venue.

However, after buying tickets for his concert at St Mary's stadium this June, the family was left heartbroken when their ticket suppliers Elite Ticket Shop went bankrupt.

Hayley's mum Selina paid £130 for two tickets but has been told by liquidators that they would not be getting tickets or a refund.

Selina, 40, a shop worker, of Criffe Avenue, Hamble, said: "When I told Hayley the bad news she was absolutely mortified. She's devastated and can't believe it's happened. I feel so sorry for her.

"I phoned the liquidators but they said there was no chance of getting my money back because I paid by cheque and not credit card."

Liquidators Valentine & Co confirmed more than 1,000 people have been affected by the bankruptcy at five concerts including Celine Dion and Cliff Richard.

Digusted' Selina added: "I'm absolutely disgusted that this has happened. I phoned St Mary's Stadium and they were the ones who advised me to buy the tickets from Elite Ticket Shop."

The Hamble Community Sports College pupil was left with an enlarged heart after being struck down with the virus and was so serious she was put at the top of Europe's transplant waiting list. She was found a heart seven days later and has since made a full recovery.

Another victim of the bankruptcy is Ringwood resident Valerie Garner who lost £154 after buying two tickets for Cliff Richard at Wembley in November.

Valerie, of King Fisher Way, said: "I'm very disappointed because we can't go. We were asked to pay by cheque but the liquidators have told us that we can't get a refund."

Southampton Football Club said the concert was nothing to do with them and people who have lost tickets should call promoters AEG LTD.

A spokesman from AEG LTD said Elite Ticket Shop was not an authorised ticket agent and customers should contact the liquidators or their credit cards.

The help line for liquidators Valentine & Co is 0844 826 9259.

Not sure what the angle is here. Are the Echo reminding us to use a credit card for purchases over £100.00 as that protects the buyer in situations like this?

If that isn't the message what is it?

I feel sorry for the girl, but i also feel sorry for all the other thanks, Bon Jovi? c'mon!

I think they are hoping someone will offer up a couple of tickets. If I had some I would offer but I don't. The parents could probably get some from a tout on the night...will cost a fortune but better than breaking a promise to your daughter

The echo are hoping someone will pay for, or donate, two tickets for Hayley and a friend. I feel sorry for her, but unfortunately these things happen quite a lot when you use smaller agencies.
If anyone should cough up, it's the football club for recommending an unauthorised agency. Could this go to small claims court against the football club?

The story doesn't even say if the concert it sold out. Maybe try ticketmaster or another agency?

Why not even try for another venue on the tour, or write to the band's promoters or record label. You might be pleasantly suprised.
Without wanting to sound uncaring, the girl has made a full recovery, so the opportunity will come round again.

As for ticket touts - if you can wait until the support acts have already played, touts will usually take an offer of cash rather than walk away without selling the tickets at all.

Listening to Bon Jovi's music is enough to give anyone heart failure. Hayley got off lightly.

Denzil - work?

Flipping burgers?

I hope this young lady gets a ticket- Bon Jovi still a superb and valid act, despite the musical snobs and detractors You can hear them whining "Sell out man....sell out.."

"Southampton Football Club said the concert was nothing to do with them"

I'm sure they put it a little more eloquently than that!

I would think the publicity department of the club has a better grasp of the english language than 'Echo Reporter', and has been slightly misrepresented here.

If St Mary's Stadium were advising to buy through an 'unauthorised' ticket company, then surely they hold some responsibility.

Ticketmaster (an authorized seller) still has lots of seated and standing tickets available...

No doubt run by the players who have too much time on their hands apart from doing police interviews

Why oh why would someone get annoyed at not being able to see Bon Jovi? He is a blatant raving mincer.

Hayley, cheer up love, there's not need to live on a prayer . I understand you did come to the crossroads in life, and would never say goodbye but i believe that you have to raise your hands and accept that for once, you've had bad medicine . Seems like you're not Wanted dead or alive.

Stu-pid - for someone to make homophobic comments about Bon Jovi, you seem to know more of their songs than I do, and I'm camper than a row of tents.

Bet you just love a bit of Abba and Queen, on a Saturday night eh big fella?

Ironic because verytime you come on here to slag it off you're just bumping up the advertising revenues!

I always buy my tickets from Ticketmaster, They are the only ones i trust , I got my last Bon Jovi tickets from them and have done the same this time.I hope these people manage to get some more tickets but watch who you buy from and always use credit cards so you can get your money back if it goes wrong .

That's damned generous of you, "I'd let you have my tickets except I haven't got any".

Oh well, it's the thought that counts I suppose. What did you get the missus for Christmas? "I was going to get you a diamond necklace, but I didn't". She'll just have to make do with a pearl one instead. Again.

Don't know about Bon Jovi, but the punters that won't get their tickets to see Celine Dion and Cliff Richard have had a lucky escape. Phew.

lol

So you're slagging off the biggest selling female singer plus the UKs most successful male artiste.

Both sold millions of records and selling out the arenas?

Cliff now on his 50th anniversary tour and still showing the young pretenders how it should be done.

I'm not bleating as a fan of these two but it does make me laugh when musical snobs come a sneering at the more 'sedate' kind of performer.

Check out the Celine Dion in Vegas DVD - even if you dont like her.

Come on Sue - who rocks your boat??

Yes I am having a tongue-in-cheek laugh at the expense of Celine Dion and Cliff Richard. Nothing wrong with that.

I'm aware of their popularity within their respective fan bases and their longevity, especially CR, but it doesn't mean that they are popular with the masses. Indeed, I think you'll find that both CR and CD have been poked fun at from many a comedian and the public, for some years. But they're still doing ok, aren't they?

I'm not a musical snob in the slightest. It does make me laugh however, that cronies like you, refuse to believe that any artiste, group or performer can ever be better than Tony Hancock, Morecombe & Wise, Cliff Richard, The Beatles etc. Yes, they're all talented and brilliantly successful, but there are also talented and successful individuals and groups nowadays too, King Mush. Get with the programme and open your eyes to the modern day.

No. I won't check out the Celine Dion in Vegas DVD. I don't like her. Why would I want to watch her video? Ridiculous statement.

Who rocks my boat? Too many and varied to mention. Does it matter? Is it relevant? No.

Get a sense of humour Mush!
