Italian flavour at village pub thanks to new owners

THE village pub in Chilbolton near Stockbridge has reopened with a decidedly Italian flavour.

The Abbots Mitre is under new management, and is now co-owned by Tom Romita, who runs Winchester News.

His existing business has gradually expanded into a coffee bar and deli, stocking produce from his native Italy.

He has now gone into partnership with Sam La Gumina. He used to run The Old Market Inn at The Square, Winchester, which is now called the William Walker.

When Mr La Gumina was in charge, the venue specialised in Italian cuisine with a wide range of pizzas and pastas.

Working with Mr Romita, he now hopes to repeat the makeover at the village pub in Chilbolton.

The refit has taken several months, and included the installation of a stone oven.

Mr Romita added that they wanted the venue to be family friendly.

A new website for the pub is planned, and the venue can be contacted on 01264 860348.
