Romsey farmer's market on the move

A FARMERS’ market is changing its location in the new year.

The Sunday market will visit Romsey on six different dates next year, operating from the Alma Road car park next to the Waitrose supermarket.

Organisers say that the new location should attract more people as many of the shops in the town centre, the old site, are closed on a Sunday.

Alex Handford, from the farmers’ market believed the move was a positive step.

She said: “I think it’s a good move for the market. It’s moved to a site where you’re going to have more active trade.

“On a Sunday people don’t naturally go into The Hundred because many of the shops aren’t open. Most people going shopping will be visiting Waitrose and because it’s the main car park I’m hoping we will see a rise in foot fall.”

Various towns all over England have this lovely indoor market. Not just a few local shops, but the whole market feeling - fish stall, meat stall, lace and haberdashery, veg, cheeses, you name it these indoor markets are great - For goodness sake, surely, we have an arcade somewhere in Soton and/or area where we can wander and enjoy. In the meantime, Romsey Market great but its time to put them under a roof.
