Harvester opens new restaurant in Eastleigh's Swan Centre

Swan Centre, Eastleigh Swan Centre, Eastleigh

A NEW restaurant is putting jobs on the menu in a Hampshire town.

Harvester is set to create 50 new jobs in Eastleigh, and is now recruiting kitchen staff ahead of opening a new branch at The Swan Centre next month The popular chain has revealed it has signed a lease to open a new Salad & Grill restaurant – its first eatery in Eastleigh town centre.

The site is just a mile-anda- half from the Harvester’s nearest restaurant, at Ham Farm in Twyford Road, just north of the town.

Harvester’s senior marketing manager Alex Meyer said: “We are delighted to have secured such a fantastic site for our new-look Harvester Salad & Grill in Eastleigh.

“The area has great potential and we’re confident that Harvester’s unique offering will prove very popular here.

“Our new restaurant will be the ideal setting to meet family and friends, with a relaxed and casual atmosphere that people will want to return to time after time.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming guests of all ages in a few weeks time.”

The new restaurant is due to officially open on September 13.

It will join an increasing number of dining options at the revamped Swan Centre, which already boasts a Nando’s, Prezzo and Frankie & Benny’s as part of its increased evening leisure offerings.

The complex, which was extensively redeveloped as part of a £24m scheme that opened in 2009 to boost Eastleigh’s night-time economy, also includes a Vue Cinema and AMF Bowling.

Fifty jobs in the Harvester? They will outnumber the customers surely? How come there is never more than about four people working at Ham Farm at any one time?
Oh I get it...there is actually only 10 jobs and the hours are split among 50 part timers so the Harvester can avoid paying National Insurance!
Brilliant!
And not only will the low paid employees not have to pay any Tax or NI - they can have their wages topped up with Tax credits!
Great stuff!
As I am subsidising Harvester restaurants staffing bill through my income tax, can I get a discount off my meals there?

Here's why you are right.

The real measurement is a combination of man-hours and rates. Only that tells the true story.

Fifty jobs - not by old money standards.

Makes a change from the usual random IKEA story ie 'IKEA Installs Solar Panels' or 'IKEA Cafe is a Good Place to Go' reports.

Makes a change from the usual random IKEA storys "Solar Panels Fitted to IKEA Roof" or "IKEA Cafe Serves Coffee With a View of the Docks" headlines. Guess what, it's the same reporter who does this regularly, how many freebies is he on??!!

Anyone know how to apply for these jobs? Nothing on the Harvester site!

the Swan Centre is a rip off, we used the cinema there and were charged to park on a Sunday evening. It's free everywhere else.

I saw someone order scampi and chips last time I went to a Harvester (not this century) they paid £3.20 for it, ate it all apart from 3 chips, then demanded a refund because they said that it was cold! You don't get quality customers like that in a decent pub/restaurant.

I don't doubt it at all BS - we ate in Ham Farm about 2 years ago (first time ever at a Harvester) and the food was that bad that none of our party of 3 could eat it, and moreover is it was that bad that it wasn't worth the breath of complaining - we just upped and left it all there. Truly horrid. There, that'll do their free ad the world of good!

And whilst we're on the topic - won't the Swan Centre just get rid of TK Maxx and give us a half decent mini dept store....?! Even Primark would suffice!

Haha, StEmmosfire, I worry...

Anyway, not even a proper Harvester? How boring, space that could have been utilized a lot better, but fair enough. Personally I think the new complex did good for Eastleigh... I mean by Eastleigh standards...
