Paton twins put superaized onions and pumpkins on display

HERE’S a man who knows his onions.

Green-fingered Ian Paton and his twin Stuart are well known for their monster pumpkins which they carefully cultivate each year.

But now the 50-year-old brothers from Lymington have an impressive new supersized veggie to add to their collection – with a crop of onions 30 times bigger than normal.

Each of the onions weighs in at an impressive 15lb, but cost a staggering £100 to cultivate each because they can only prosper in specific conditions.

They were grown in a glasshouse under an impressive 2,400 watts of light and have already proved a smash hit with one kebab shop owner who has chosen a few of the veggies to include in some of his dishes.

The brothers have also once again grown another super-pumpkin which weighs in at about 1000lb.

The extraordinary squash is 60 times the size of a normal vegetable, has an impressive circumference of 161 inches and is as weighty as a Fiat 500 car.

Grown from a special seed, it is given a mammoth 600 square feet in which to grow, and it will soon be ready for the chop after spending a total of 110 days in the earth.

After that it will be displayed at the Jubilee Sailing Trust’s annual pumpkin festival in Southampton and any proceeds from the sale of the veg will go to the charity.
