Prince Brasserie, Southampton

REGARDLESS of whether you are a regular at this friendly Indian restaurant as I now am or if it's your first time through its politely held open door, you can be sure you will be greeted and treated as Prince's most valued customer.

Even if you are just popping in to pick up a takeaway you can be sure of a warm welcome.

The restaurant is attractively decorated, with bright murals and comfy seats. If you are in a group you will easily be accommodated on a long table but if you are looking for something more intimate ask to be seated in one of the booths.

As well as the excellent service, two important factors which keeps me going back to Prince Brasserie are the freshness of the ingredients used and the variety of dishes on offer.

As a vegan I am particularly impressed with the selection of vegetable dishes on offer. What's more, the staff are happy to adjust the dish to your requirements, for instance, cooking it with oil rather than butter and state that they will happily prepare any dish not on the menu.

On our most recent visit to Prince my partner and I decided to start our meal with poppadoms, though there is a good range of starters on offer, including onion bhajis, garlic mushrooms and numerous meat dishes.

For his main course my partner went for the vegetable kari.

This dish, which comes with a naan bread, is spicy but not too strong. It had plenty of ripe tomatoes, ginger, onion and capsicum and a fresh taste.

I opted to have two side dishes, plus one which we shared sag aloo.

This delicious and filling potato and spinach dish is simple but very tasty no visit to Prince would be complete without it.

I also had the tarka dal a mild lentil dish and chana chili a very strong chickpea dish for people who like their flavours strong. I recommend this tasty dish but only if you have a glass of water ready to put out the fire in your mouth!

As ever, our meal was delicious and inexpensive our bill, including drinks, came in at £25. No wonder I go there so often.
