The Balearics have been the place many British tourists have headed on their holidays for decades with holidaymakers returning year after year to spend time on these fantastic Spanish Islands.
The short flight times are perfect for families with young children or those that can only get away for a couple of days, with the islands all being less than a three hour journey. Balearic Island holidays offer a warm climate which reaches a welcoming 28 degrees in August so is not too unbearable.
Each of the three Balearics, Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza, have their own personality but still retain the Spanish ambiance. All have a variety of resorts to suit every type of holiday maker whether it is couples, young and lively or families with children and each island has hotel accommodation that is just as varied. From small family run apartment blocks to luxurious world wide hotel chains you have the pick of the bunch whichever island you decide upon.
The largest of the three is Majorca, a vibrant island that is full of variation and home to a wide selection of resorts. Palma is the bustling and beautiful capital that is renowned for its great shopping and fine dining facilities but also has a traditional and cultural side with a selection of museums, castles and cathedrals. Magaluf on the southern coast is the liveliest resort and attracts the young and lively 18-30 bunch in their droves throughout the summer months with its close neighbour Palma Nova being a little quieter and having a few hotels that cater for families. On the northern coast of the island is the family orientated resort of Alcudia. A wide stretch of soft sandy beach awaits you here with a great selection of restaurants, bars and family pubs to keep the whole family entertained. Sa Coma is a modern beach resort situated on the west coast of Majorca and attracts a variation of British holidaymakers. A traffic free promenade awash with shops, restaurants and bars makes this resort safe for all the family and an extra attraction of this resort is the lush countryside surroundings great for nature lovers and walkers.
Menorca is the most demure island with a laid back and traditional vibe about it attracting holidaymakers that desire a relaxing holiday in unspoilt surroundings. This stunning island is covered with lush greenery and has an huge selection of various sized beaches as well as intimate rocky coves waiting to be discovered. Mahon is the pretty capital, nestled into the rugged landscapes and surrounded by lush farmyard. Sitting in a traditional tappas bar overlooking the harbour , watching the world go by is the perfect way to spend your days here. The liveliest resort on the island is Cala'n Forcat, although certainly not on the scale of Magaluf. The village is lively in a family orientated way with fun parks, bouncy castles and an aqua park to keep the whole family entertained. Small sandy coves provide a great place for sunbathing and the shallow waters are enticing and safe. Evenings are best spent enjoying leisurely meals in delicious eateries and enjoying the family orientated nightlife, there is also a selection of late night clubs for those that want them. S'algar is the type of resort you never want to leave. Completely laid back it is the ideal place to get away from it all and totally unwind. Holidaymakers lay out their towels and soak up the suns glorious rays on the rocks by the waters edge surrounded by a promenade of swaying palms. If soft sands are what you want a short stroll will take you to the glorious beach of Cala Alcaufar. The town of A'algar has a fine selection of souvenir shops and just enough bars and restaurants to offer everything you could possibly need.
Ibiza is the smallest but most well known of the Balearics and is probably the most contrasting. The liveliest resort on the island is definitely San Antonio with its array of all night clubs and bars and many summer festivals. The worlds' best D.J's flock here in the summer to play their sets to the army of clubbers partying the night away. Days are spent recovering on the sand beaches, shopping and enjoying the array of delicious eateries. Seemingly a world away from this party epicentre Ibiza also has a chilled out side to it and has resorts that cater for families as well as couples. Take Cala Longa as the perfect example, this sleepy resort is set in a stunning bay of sweeping sand and backed by pine clad forests. Holidays here are all about relaxation, lay out your towel on the white sands then take a dip in the calm azure waters to cool off before enjoying a leisurely evening meal and dancing in the scattering of late night disco bars.
No matter where you decide to take your Balearic Island holidays this year you will certainly be able to find yourself the perfect accommodation in the perfect resort to ensure you have a delightful holiday.
