AS we discovered last week the emotional aspects of a band splitting up can feel like a divorce.

Whereas finding a new member is more like a blind date but with a difference: it's not a happy couple you are trying to create, it's a unit that hopes to conquer the world.

For Recreation, a band made up of south coast musicians, the past 18 months have seen them lose two guitarists: one for personal reasons and the other artistic.

The search for a new six string recruit began in January and started with, as lead singer Simon Payne recalls, "Some horrific auditions."

Luckily Recreation's manager Brian knew of Paul Dymott, a guitarist suited to their indie sound but a quick phone call found Paul already in four bands and unfortunately living in Cornwall.

However two weeks later Paul found himself without a reason to live in Cornwall and told the band he was returning to Gosport. "Someone else's loss was our gain!" Simon explained.

The decision to apply for the position Paul found easy to make because, after hearing the band's music on MySpace he, "still had it in his a head a week later."

His introduction to the band has lead to a massive outpouring of creativity and you'll hear two new songs on this Sunday's show.

But how did Simon and the rest of Recreation know that Paul was right for them? "When someone turns up and shows you how to play your own songs you know."
