On Stage
An evening with Gary Lineker
 |
| IN REHEARSAL: Sarah-Jane Bungay as Monica, Vince McKeown as Dan, Joanne Warner as Birgitta and Colin Carter as Bill. |
BISHOPSTOKE Players' latest production is a comedy for football lovers - and haters!
It is July 4, 1990 and England are just about to play West Germany in that fateful semi-final of the World Cup in Italy.
As Pavarotti prepares to sing Nessun Dorma and Gazza fills up those tear ducts, Monica and Bill get ready for the biggest night of their lives. Monica, who fantasises about the love of her life (Gary Lineker) has brought Bill to Majorca to sort out their shaky marriage. The trouble is that Bill is hiding in his own world of football and just wants to watch the game.
Ian, Bill's nerdy work colleague, has joined them, much to the disgust of Monica, and he is joined by Birgitta, a dazzling German tourist rep who has a thing for Kevin Keegan.
The set is completed when the excessive Dan, who has a thing for all women including Birgitta and Monica, turns up unexpectedly.
If you're a football hater, don't worry; it's a play about relationships, about the breakdown of marriage and the way we try to keep things alive in our minds.
If you're a relationship hater, don't worry, it's a play about how England came so close on that unforgettable night. An Evening with Gary Lineker is being staged from Thursday, May 15 to Saturday, May 17 at Bishopstoke Memorial Hall, Riverside, Bishopstoke. Tickets are available from 023 8069 3032 at £6 each including tea or coffee.
