About this neighbourhood
Bevois Valley and Banister Park sector can be considered to be one of the most cosmopolitan and diverse communities within Southampton. A walk around the sector will inform the casual but interested observer that the demographic make up of the community is made of significantly large groups living within it. There are large numbers of students living in rented accommodation who attend both the nearby Solent and Southampton Universities. The number of Polish shops that have given a multicultural blend to the sector indicate that there is also a flourishing Eastern European community and there is a significant number of elderly folk who have lived in the area all their lives. The housing stock in the main is old and there are no large housing estates or tower blocks but new regeneration projects can be seen such as the current scheme on Portswood Road close to the Avenue Road junction, this ensures that the fabric of the housing stock is updated affording the image of a sector that is seen as to be
