Reid names provisional Legends squad

England Legends manager Peter Reid has announced his 36-man provisional squad of players that will take on Scotland in The Alan Ball Memorial Cup at St Mary's on May 15.

The international football match, which kicks off at 7.45pm and is being played live on ITV4, is part of three-match summer festival of football, which will also see the England Legends take on Ireland on Thursday, July 3, and Germany on Thursday, August 7.

The England Legends provisional list, which includes seven former first team Saints and all players currently under consideration by Reid for the match against Scotland, will be whittled down to a final 18-man squad in the build-up to the live international football match.

Upon announcing his provisional England Legends list, Reid said: "Over the course of the next week to ten days, I will be assessing the fitness of the England Legends and making some harsh decisions on who is in and who is out.

"There are going to be some disappointed players, but if you can't make those tough calls, there is no point in being a football manager. I will be looking to get my final squad in place as soon as possible."

Tickets for England v Scotland - The Alan Ball Memorial Cup - are available from St Mary's box office on 0800 2800 050 or by visiting www.saintsfc.co.uk.

ENGLAND LEGENDS provisional squad: Dave Beasant, Tim Flowers, Chris Woods, Nigel Winterburn, Viv Anderson, Lee Dixon, Paul Parker, Stuart Pearce, Graeme Le Saux, Martin Keown, Gary Pallister, Gareth Southagte, Des Walker, Steve Hodge, Paul Ince, Rob Lee, Steve McMahon, Steve McManaman, Paul Merson, Carlton Palmer, Ray Parlour, David Platt, Jamie Redknapp, Bryan Robson, Lee Sharpe, Chris Waddle, Neil Webb, Dennis Wise, John Barnes, Ray Wilkins, Peter Beardsley, Alan Shearer, Ian Wright, Les Ferdinand, Teddy Sheringham, Stan Collymore.

I thought Le Tiss had played a handful of games in an England shirt?

Ah well, as long as Daddy Redknapp doesn't come to watch, shouldn't think he'll be welcome......

According to Wikipedia (so not 100% official):

"He played 8 times for England from 1994 to 1998 without scoring. He was widely overlooked by then England manager Terry Venables, who received regular criticism for not picking Le Tissier."

I am pretty certain that LeTissier never gained a full cap, but may have featured in the odd friendly. I know that he was going to be capped against N Ireland, but riots broke out and the players never took the field!

I admired his talent, and feel that if he had been more ambitious, he would certainly have been capped many times.

He came to Fratton Park for Alan Knight's testimonial match, and took quite a bit of stick, for some reason that I have yet to fathom out!!!!!! He, of course, scored a peach of a goal, at the Fratton End, and peeled off his shirt to reveal one with red and white stripes!! There was a deathly hush before the uproar, then laughter and a cheer!

If he had moved to another club, he would have got his caps!

As Kate so rightly put, he did play in 2 world cup qualifiers. Plus, it doesnt matter if the others were friendlys it still counts as a full cap dumbas*. For instance, where did Becks recieve his 100th. Oh yeh, in a friendly!!!

Le God was set up by the coach and the media.
He was our best player in the Qualifier v Italy, because Walker let in that soft goal and others played badly, including Shearer ,
Le God was put on the cross and was nailed to it.
He took all the flak and was well and truly crucified.
Then came the last chance saloon which was a fiasco.
Remamber the Russia game ?,. 3 Goals and he was ignored again.
If he was from Brazil he would have got 100 caps.

I know that he was going to be capped against N Ireland, but riots broke out and the players never took the field! I admired his talent, and feel that if he had been more ambitious, he would certainly have been capped many times. He came to Fratton Park for Alan Knight\'s testimonial match, and took quite a bit of stick, for some reason that I have yet to fathom out!!!!!!
As said, I was pretty certain that LeTissier never gained a full cap, but now admit that I was wrong!
I still believe that if he had shown more ambition, then with his talent, he would have gained more caps.
With regard Beckham's 100'th cap, when you get a cap, just to round up the numbers, I think that most people would agree that it devalues international caps!

Oh, that's right. Be negative about it instead of welcoming it to St. Mary's. I say good for the club for raising the city's profile.

pick any 11 from above and they would be in any top league even now.

Jamie Redknapp was an England International, LeTissier was uncapped!
A crying shame too Sailor. One of the greatest uncapped players to grace a football field, and grace it he did, with sublime skills that even the few true football fans from your adopted neck of the woods would have appreciated.
