OAP stalked ex-lover after affair turned sour
Terry Freeman

WHEN pensioner Terry Freeman took his lawn bowling clothes to be mended, he could not have known that it would end in court.

The married 68-year-old fell for seamstress Carol Kendall, 23 years his junior, and the pair had a brief fling.

But when Miss Kendall ended the affair, jilted Freeman refused to take no for an answer.

He made silent phone calls, paced up and down outside her house and spied on her at work during a chilling campaign of harassment.

His behaviour became so obsessive that she called the police and now he has been banned from contacting her for a year.

New Forest magistrates handed Freeman a 12-month restraining order and fined him £185.

They heard how, despite being married for 11 years, Freeman lavished gifts on his lover when the pair started a relationship late last autumn.

But Miss Kendall called things off before Christmas, prompting the start of Freeman's sinister actions.

He began to track her movements and was often seen peering in through the windows of her house in Calmore.

Despite a police caution, he maintained his obsession and last month he stalked her as she shopped in Asda and Co-op in Totton.

Miss Kendall, 45, told the Daily Echo: "He was always persistent. I was leaving it late in the morning to open curtains and windows and I was checking the roads left and right before going out.

That's the kind of creepy man he is.

"He was always across the road or at the shops - he was always hanging around. I even left early in the morning to avoid seeing him.

"You didn't know when he would pop up and how he was going to do it."

She added: "I was determined he was not going to scare me out of my own home. I thought he was just a silly little man who needed to get a life.

"If you have said no for four months you would think they would take the hint."

Representing Freeman, of Treagore Road, Calmore, Stephen Mack told magistrates at Lyndhurst: "She decided that although he lavished presents on her that the relationship should come to an end.

"He found it difficult to take and contacted her on a number of occasions."

"I was checking the roads left and right"

Thats what all pedestrians should do, fair play to her that despite her distress she has taken the time to offer a public safety message.
