UFOs over Hampshire

UFOs were spotted in the skies of Hampshire more than 40 times in the last ten years, according to the country's own X-Files.

The Ministry of Defence has today published never-seen-before information of UFO sightings dating back ten years.

The files reveal that there were 42 reports of UFO sightings in Hampshire that were passed on to the MoD for examination between 1997 and 2007.

Information on when and where the sighting took place, as well as what was seen, are included in the listings, which now appear on the National Archives website.

Sightings have been on the rise in the county since 2002, with one UFO spotted in 2003, three in 2006 and five last year.

However, the most popular year for spotting UFOs was 1998, with 14 sightings reported.

One caller reported "a stationary object, adjacent to the moon and twice as bright." Another said they had seen "a single orange light as bright as Venus moving at aircraft speed which hovered then flickered like a flame."

The figures are the first in a series of files on unidentified flying objects planned to be released by the MOD over the next three years.

An MoD spokesman yesterday said it kept records of UFO sightings to keep check on UK airspace - not to investigate the possibilities of extra-terrestrial life.

He said: "To date, independent experts have concluded that there are realistic explanations behind alleged UFO reports, such as aircraft lights or natural phenomena.

"Reports are examined by the Ministry of Defence solely to establish whether UK airspace may have been compromised by hostile or unauthorised military activity. If required, sighting reports are examined with the assistance of the Department's air defence experts.

"Unless there is evidence of a potential threat, no further work is undertaken to identify the nature of each sighting reported.

"The Ministry of Defence has no other interest or role regarding UFO matters and does not consider questions regarding the existence or otherwise of extraterrestrial life-forms.

"The MoD receives a large number of requests each year for information relating to UFOs, so to meet demand a new system has been introduced to release these files in a structured way. The rest of the files are currently under review and will be added to The National Archives over the next three years."

So lets just change the headline to read;

Or maybe some of these UFO's are the laser beams from the newest and biggest cruise liners in Southampton.

You can see these all across the forest and the ventura ones did look like UFO's (especially to the people in the pub where we were)

Go to You Tube and type in UFO Southampton, there's a whole bunch of strange stuff. A lot of it is explainable, but a small amount are pretty freaky.

UFOs often come to deliver policy documents to New Labour from a planet in outer space. It is called Fools Paradise!

Most people seeing UFOs refuse to believe that their own eyes have tricked them. Just one example - Reg Presley of the Troggs swears that he sees UFOs all the time because they "perform manouevres impossible to ordinary aircraft, eg hovering, suddenly moving off at speed etc. Quite simply he is misjudging distance. Who hasn't seen a bright light hovering silently for up to a minute or more only to see it move quite quickly to left or right then to realise it was an apporaching plane still some way off but with landing lights on? Unfortunately the gullible will have long convinced themselves that it was a UFO by then, though why a UFO should need bright flashing lights to see by remains a mystery.

Another pointless story. Let me change the subject.

I was in the city centre this morning shopping with my toddler, who really needed some new shoes. It took a bit longer than expected, as the staff were very good and wanted to find some shoes that fitted properly.

When we returned to the car I discovered a parking ticket on wiper. I had paid to park (as I always do), but I was 20 minutes over. So a very expensive pair of shoes!

I'll be paying by post. I'm just waiting for the dog to take a crap in the garden. I don't mind paying for the extra weight. One thing's for sure, a 1st-class stamp isn't going to cover the postage!

True, there is quite a lot of rubbish (Chinese Sky Lanterns and hot air balloons). There's still one or two I can't explain.

If you were referring to our Prime Minister Tom, perhaps if you checked under the name Gordon Brown, you may be able to arrange a flying pig shoot!

I've seen a light acting just as you described, but was definately performing manouevres an ordinary plane can't manage. Not "quite" quickly, but "very" quickly. It was too high up as well. It's pretty clearly not some extra-terrestrial craft, but nobody's been able to explain it in any rational way. Any ideas?

We've had UFOs landing here for decades and depositing their mutants around the sink estates.

Just look at some of these weirdos - gotta be from another planet.

All part of genetic experiments as these aliens are reproducing and working on a stealth takeover of our earth.

just so everyone knows, this isn't a new report of UFO sightings, this video has been on youtube.com for ages. There is a school nearby and they were letting off chinese lanterns that they made. The tea light heats the tissue paper which lifts it into the air... not a UFO.

Well, tom, I'm afraid that's because you're a d*ckhead. My point really was that a little leniency (at least for those of us who try to pay our way) isn't going to hurt, is it? I could understand if I hadn't paid anything at all to park. I'm wondering whether you're an enthusiastic immigrant traffic warden. If you are, you just lost the respect I never had for you in the first place!
