A TOP Hampshire nurseries has continued its winning ways by scooping a prestigious prize at the Chelsea Flower Show.

Hillier Nurseries were awarded a gold medal for their "Sail for Gold" exhibit, inspired by the British Olympic sailing team and developed in partnership with Southampton-based investments firm Skandia.

The Romsey-based nurseries was one of 40 gold medal winners in the Great Pavilion Awards announced this morning.

Hillier's has won a gold medal at every Chelsea Flower Show since the Second World War - today's medal was their 63rd in a row.

Garden designer and Hillier's deputy managing director Andy McIndoe said he wanted to recreate the spirit of sea and success by including ship sails.

Other garden features include grasses, water, stone, glass and timber.

Hampshire Carniverious Plants also took gold with their exhibition, also on display in the Great Pavilion. In the same category, Isle of Wight Lavender was awarded a silver flora award.

Winchester's Sparsholt College was also a medal winner, scooping a silver lindley medal for their educational exhibition "An introduction to allelopathy".

If paul b hasn't anything constructive to say he should shut up. RHS Chelsea is a prestigeous event and Hilliers put a great deal of time and effort into their exhibits so well done on another first class display. People like paul b should get out more and appreciate what is around them.
