Winchester schoolchildren find colourful way to help charity

Harestock Primary children were visited by active servicemen on Red, White & Blue Day
WINCHESTER schoolchildren took part in a colourful way to raise money for charity this month. Children at Harestock Primary School marked Red, White & Blue Day by donating £1 to dress in those colours.
The school raised £184 on Friday, October 12, which goes to three charities supporting service families throughout the UK – ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, the RAF Benevolent Fund and the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity.
Around 20 per cent of children at Harestock come from service families and every term some see a parent deployed abroad, often for three-six months.
The school also welcomed current servicemen, took part in drills and learned to use army radios.
Jackie Sankey, headteacher, said “We are very proud of all our children at Harestock and had a great day on Red, White & Blue day, finding out more about the lives of our service children.”
The school also has a service family support worker who helped organise the event.
Harestock was one of 200 schools across the country to take part.
