IT may have turned decidely chilly of late, but that didn’t stop members of the Hampshire Regency Dancers from promenading through Alresford wearing period costumes last Sunday.
It was part of the group’s 10th anniversary celebrations, which also included a ball on Saturday evening at Georgian mansion Old Alresford House, dressed in their hand-made historical outfits.
James Arnott, chairman of the group, said: “We’ve come a long way. We started with just a handful of enthusiasts to almost 50 regular dancers now. “It’s also a good work-out and a chance to share an interest in all things Regency — from fashion and etiquette, to music and even food.
“We hold an annual ball, dinner and summer picnic at a different historic venue in Hampshire every year, so it’s more than just dancing — it’s a life-style.”
The walk through Alresford came shortly after a trip on the Watercress Line.
The group meets regularly in Winchester every Wednesday to practice dances, cotillions and quadrilles.
