Plans to turn Old Basing barn into home

A BARN in Old Basing, which used to be a saddlery, could be turned into a home.
The building, in The Street, has been vacant since August 2008 when the saddlery moved on after being there since 1979.
The applicants, A M Stratton, D T Stratton and D Wilson, want to convert the barn into a four-bedroom house, with a rear first-storey extension. The plan also features a new car garage and a new boundary wall.
The application reads: “The barn’s once rural, agrarian setting has been eroded over time through modern development all around it, both along The Street and to the rear in Moor View.
“Its integrity as a former agricultural building has therefore been compromised and the application proposal presents the opportunity to enhance both the building fabric and its setting.”
It adds that the change of use should be granted because there is a Robinsons equestrian store, in Winklebury, Basingstoke, that sells a range of tack and saddlery.
Planning officers at Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council will decide on the application by February 6.
