Drivers caught parking on yellow lines outside Oakley school
1:00pm Friday 18th January 2013 in News By Emily Roberts, Chief Reporter
MEMBERS of a new community speedwatch scheme have helped to ease parking problems outside a school.
The team of volunteers in Oakley took the registration of vehicles parked on yellow lines outside Oakley Infant and Junior Schools in Oakley Lane, and passed them on to PC Barbara Bradley, who then wrote to the offenders asking them not to repeat the offence.
Oakley and Deane Parish Councillor Bob Frankland said at a parish council meeting on January 10: “We have seen a difference in the number of vehicles parking near Jolly Olly’s.”
The community speedwatch group is to continue monitoring the area although it has yet to record the speed of traffic in roads in the village. Cllr Frankland said the team needs to accompany the police on two occasions using the equipment, before they can go out alone. He added: “Hopefully, we will get this done in January.”
