NHS payments deadline looms

PEOPLE who think they should have received NHS payments for care outside of hospital will need to apply by the end of March.

The cut-off for applications for NHS Continuing Healthcare funding will be March 31.

The deadline applies to people who were not assessed for funding, but received and paid for care between April 1, 2011, and March 31, 2012.

Those affected will need to contact Hampshire Primary Care Trust for an assessment.

Continuing healthcare is NHS-funded care for people with long-term medical needs.

It can range from community nurse or specialist therapy treatments at home, to the NHS funding care home fees. Funding is only given after an assessment.

Government health minister Norman Lamb said: “The deadline to register for an assessment is approaching, and we want everyone who should have been entitled to be assessed for a past period of care to be considered as soon as possible.”

The deadline does not apply for people who had an assessment for NHS Continuing Healthcare before April 1, 2012, and have received a decision from the NHS.
