Grit lorry visits Hook school

HOOK school children experienced the nitty-gritty of icy weather when a special lorry pulled in.
Youngsters at Hook Junior School were visited by a gritting truck from the nearby Amey depot, which works in partnership with Hampshire County Council. They were able to ask questions about it and suggest a name.
David Ogden, Amey’s Account Director in Hampshire said: “Having a look around a gritter and thinking up names for it should be lots of fun for the children, but we hope it will also engage them and their families with the wider issues of staying safe on the roads during the winter.”
Two winning names will be selected and applied to Amey gritting vehicles.
Caroline Lawrence, assistant headteacher at Hook Junior School, said: “It’ll be great fun watching out for the gritters when the weather is cold.
“But the most important thing is that it will encourage caution and safety during the cold weather.”
