A BASINGSTOKE bar which mysteriously closed down a few weeks ago is now being advertised to let.
Bar Rock in Winchester Street closed on February 1 when a notice was put on the door of the premises giving notice of the termination of the licence, but no reason why this had happened.
Now, a sign has been put up outside the Top of The Town venue, by commercial property agents London Clancy, advertising the 6,300sq ft “prime retail unit.”
A member of staff for London Clancy told The Gazette that they began marketing the ground floor of the building to let last week for £110,000 per year.
Bar Rock was the second nightspot in Basingstoke to shut its doors this year, following the closure of Censo, in Church Street, in January.

I see The Gazette did try to find out when Bar Rock first closed and I see numerous other regional newspapers have tried and failed when related bars in their areas closed down. The only Newspaper which got past first base was The Evening Standard which did find some financial figures and put the closures down to the recession. The Bar Rock websites mention three possible 'owners' and I have found another four. So at least seven companies are possible owners of Bar Rock and I cannot find a phone number or website for any of them. One company went bust and the assets were sold to one of the others leaving the debt behind. Another one of these companies was paid management fees of £1.25m by one of the others for the last year's published accounts - this sound excessive for a business worth less than £10m. You would need to be a financial expert to put together the full picture of all these companies, their directors and which owns what. But whoever owns Bar Rock, my guess is greed and poor management are the root causes of the closure.
Sounds radical, but why not do some investigative journalism and actual try to find out why it closed down? Bit of a none-story as it stands. You could've saved a few hundred words and just said "A club has closed and is up for rent but we've no idea why"
