Helpers give bright new look to pavilion
A TEAM of volunteers have revamped a pavilion for the benefit of youth club members.
The 18-strong group carried out the project at Russell Howard Pavilion, in South Ham, as part of their work with The Prince’s Trust, run in Basingstoke by Hampshire Fire and Rescue.
The trust is a charity that helps young people to overcome barriers, offering practical support including training, mentoring and financial assistance to 14 to 30-year-olds, helping them to realise their potential and transform their lives.
Those taking part in the programme were tasked with carrying out a community project, and they offered to refurbish the pavilion.
They spent two weeks painting inside the building before it was officially reopened by South Ham borough councillor Colin Regan in a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The newly-decorated building, owned by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, will mainly benefit users of the South Ham Youth Project who meet there every Thursday between 6pm and 8pm.
Nicky Blunden, centre manager, said: “It’s brilliant. They didn’t stop and were here from 10am right through.
“One night they stayed until 9.30pm when they did the floor.
“They all worked very hard.”
