New Hampshire group forms to fight for equality
A NEW group – the Hampshire Equality Group - has been formed to campaign for greater income equality; a campaign often linked to the campaign for a Living Wage.
The group is one of several local groups sprouting up across the UK to promote the work of the Equality Trust which argues that UK income inequality is among the highest in the developed world and evidence shows that this is bad for almost everyone.
On Thursday (March 7), Bill Kerry, co-director of the Equality Trust, will speak at a public meeting at the University of Southampton under the title "Inequality - the enemy between us".
The meeting starts at 6pm in Room 1007, the Murray Building (Building 58) on the Highfield Campus.
Mr Kerry said: “The Equality Trust is campaigning to raise awareness of the health and social damage that flows from our huge gap between rich and poor. There is also increasing evidence that a high level of income inequality retards economic performance and reduces our chances of moving towards a greener and more sustainable way of life, so it is essential that the UK reduces its level of income inequality.”
