Former Odiham pupil in national maths competition

STUDENTS at a Hampshire sixth form college put in a strong performance at a national maths challenge.
Alton College, which takes in pupils from of the borough and villages like Odiham and Hook, came 11th in the national final of the UK Maths Trust Senior Team Maths Challenge.
The team included Heidi Nicholson, a former pupil at Robert May’s School, in West Street, Odiham. The other team members were Ed Kirkby, Rob Carter and James Butcher.
More than 1,200 schools and colleges entered the competition, with just 62 reaching the final in London. The overall winners in this year’s competition were Westminster School.
Dr Dave Lynch, curriculum manager for mathematics at Alton College, said: “I am very proud of the successes of Ed, Heidi, James and Rob and all our students.”
