Skate campaign by Tadley youngsters prove a winner

THE EXPANSION of Tadley skate park was the subject of a winning campaign in a competition for youngsters.
Six groups of students from The Hurst Community College presented Tadley Town councillor David Leeks with campaigns they have been working on in the college, in Brimpton Road, Baughurst.
Campaigns proposed by the students, aged between 12 and 13, included revamping Tadley skate park, and reducing child bus fares into Basingstoke.
PowerPoint presentations, videos, websites and petitions were all featured in the campaigns, and the pupils themselves had arranged the visit by writing in to Tadley Town Council.
Cllr Leeks, a former mayor of Basingstoke and Deane, said he was struck by the professionalism of the campaigns, adding: “These are our future councillors.”
He chose a campaign to expand Tadley skate park as the winner.
Deputy headteacher Tim Martin thanked Cllr Leeks for giving up his time and said the project had been very worthwhile.
He said: “This experience has really taught the pupils about the power of advocacy.”
