Super school on hold as residents get more time to examine plans

PROPOSALS for a Winchester 'super school' have been put on hold to give residents more time to examine the plans, according to the county council.

An application to build a 420-place primary school at The Westgate in Cheriton Road, Fulflood was set to go before a regulatory committee yesterday (March 13) but it was deferred last week.

Several residents in Cheriton Road and Links Road have opposed the plans because they say it increase traffic problems in the area.

A spokesman for the county council said the decision was made to allow people more time to consider recent amendments made to the plans.

The spokesman said: “Due to the number of responses to the planning application and the council's amendments to the plan as a result of those the council has decided to move the consideration of this application to the next regulatory committee.

“While all the amendments have been published on-line and in accordance with due process the council recognises that the local community have had only a short period to consider them all in their totality.

“This deferral therefore seems the best way to ensure the local community has time to consider the application with all amendments before it is taken to regulatory committee for decision.”

Amendments include parking for 40 cars in Chilbolton Avenue to reduce traffic in Cheriton Road and a drop-off and pick-up zone in Cheriton Road.
