Paul Cummins of Falkland Road is banned from keeping dogs

A MAN who left his pet to live in filthy conditions without enough food and water has been banned from keeping dogs for nearly four years.
Paul Cummins, of Falkland Road, Popley, Basingstoke, appeared at Aldershot Magistrates’ Court yesterday, having pleaded not guilty to failing to provide his dog with a “suitable environment” or an “adequate diet that included access to fresh water”.
But after hearing the evidence, magistrates found the 41-year-old guilty and banned him from keeping dogs until December 2016. He was also fined £330, ordered to pay £1,400 costs and a £15 victim surcharge. The offences took place in July last year.
The RSPCA, which took Cummins to court, said Chunk had to endure appalling conditions, left alone in a dirty kitchen without enough food and water. The Staffordshire bull terrier-type dog will now be re-homed by the RSPCA.
Will Hendry, an RSPCA inspector who investigated the case, said: “Poor Chunk was apparently living in his own mess and didn’t have enough food or water available.
“This kitchen he was being kept in was squalid and looked to have been so for some time. I’m pleased he can now be found a good new home.”
