A RACING driver has got behind a fundraising drive for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
FW Motorsport’s Fergus Walkinshaw left his home in Oxfordshire for Thruxton circuit last weekend, where he gave his backing to the charity’s Bag a Bra campaign.
He was competing in the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup calendar and British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) package and made a pit stop at the air ambulance’s base at the airfield.
The 22-year-old team owner-driver became the first motorsport advocate for the Association of Air Ambulances in September 2012.
Fergus said: “We have some fun activities planned to help drive awareness and encourage fundraising for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance at Thruxton and we hope Ginetta and BTCC fans will help support this vital local service.”
It currently costs more than £125,000 per month to operate the air ambulance service, including the lease of the aircraft, pilots, fuel, and maintenance, and yet it receives no Government funding and relies on public and corporate support.
The charity is gearing up for its Bag a Bra day on 23 May – where women are asked to bring along their old bras, which are re-used by women in Africa.
