A WOMAN has told how she was allegedly sexually humiliated by a Basingstoke man, who is accused of being a serial rapist.

The jury at Winchester Crown Court heard Paul Kent, 37, of Maybrook, in Chineham, would use “rough” and “nasty” sex to coerce money out of the woman.

During three hours of police interviews played at the trial, the victim, who is in her 20s, described how Kent was like “Jekyll and Hyde” during their relationship, which lasted several years.

The trial heard she met Kent after breaking up with a previous partner and struck up a relationship “just for a bit of fun”, but eventually became “conditioned” to increasing amounts of abuse.

She said Kent had slapped her countless times. “He liked to mess up my make-up and spit in my face,” she said. “Every time he did something nasty, I would have to thank him and call him sir.

“It made me feel after the relationship like I had done these things willingly. It was more like he had conditioned me into acting like that.”

The victim admitted signing up to a “reputable” escort agency after Kent suggested it, to pay off her personal debts – about £8,000. But she alleged that Kent took the money she made.

She said: “If I refused to find him the money, he would make me do something sexually humiliating”.

During her interview, she alleged that Kent threatened to kill her when she said she wanted to break up.

“He just unleashed every bit of nastiness, saying if there was someone else he would kill me or burn my house down, and that I should leave Basingstoke,” she said.

Their relationship fell apart when she found out Kent was married. She knew he was living with another woman, but claimed Kent had promised her he would leave.

She described jobless Kent as a “demanding and argumentative” person. “I had to obey him all the way through our relationship. He owned me – that’s what he would say.”

She told the police that after ending the relationship, Kent raped her.

Last week, the jury heard from another alleged victim who said Kent forced her into prostitution after she failed to come into money.

Kent is accused of 32 sex offences against seven different victims, aged between seven and 37, over a 13-year period. He denies all the charges.

The trial continues.
