Minibus service in village shopper trial
12:00pm Saturday 24th August 2013 in News
A TRIAL scheme has begun which brings shoppers from the Clatford villages into Andover.
Test Valley Community Services has begun a trial minibus service from Goodworth Clatford and Upper Clatford into the town as part of the Dial A Ride.
The service runs every Thursday morning, picking up in the area around 9.45am, giving nearly two hours in Andover, and dropping off again after 12pm.
It is open to any residents aged over 60, anyone with a disability and anyone who lives more than 400 yards from a bus stop. The minibus will pick-up and drop off outside the resident’s house, with the driver escorting and assisting with carrying shopping to the front door.
The return fare is £4, but anyone with a Concessionary Farepass can travel for half-price.
Travel must be booked by 12pm the day before (Wednesday) by ringing the Test Valley Community Transport phone line on 01264 356808.
Messages can be left on an answer phone at any time.
Dick Hewett, community transport manager, said: “We had some initial interest from the area and it is a pair of villages which we have never previously served but ought to.
“Our existing service on a Thursday morning from Stockbridge has the capacity to take some more passengers en route to Andover and we are keen to provide a worthwhile service for a new area of northern Test Valley. If it proves popular in the long term, we may even decide to provide a dedicated service for the area.
“This is a trial service and we have not as yet made any long-term commitment. The simple message is: use it or lose it!”
Any Goodworth Clatford or Upper Clatford residents who meet the criteria and wish to try out the new service can call Dick or Zoe White on 01264 356808.
