Hundreds flock to Ropley Horticultural Show

HUNDREDS of people flocked to a Hampshire horticultural show last weekend.
Around 200 people visited the annual show in Ropley, near Alresford, on Saturday afternoon (Aug 24).
Held at the village hall, it had a number of fantastic displays in a variety of categories, from strawberries and cream-themed flower displays to a cucumber that was almost two feet long.
Jill Shakespeare, chairman of Ropley Horticultural Society, which has been running for around 60 years, said she was thrilled with this year’s turn-out.
She said: “We’ve had more entries than in recent years and I think everyone has thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The flowers are all lovely and the children’s section is particularly impressive.
“It’s very encouraging to see the children getting involved and I would love to be able to include them more, perhaps with children’s drawings, but that is something for another year and up to the committee to decide.”
Best in show went to Carol Collins for her flower arranging, that also won the Nature’s Harvest competition.
