Gust speeds reach 78mph in north Hants

ANDOVER and district appears to have escaped the worst of the stormy weather – the severity of the storm seemed to have increased as it tracked eastwards this morning.
At Boscombe Down at 6am this morning the highest gust speed measured was 64 mph but by the time it reached greatest intensity in east Hampshire, at 7am, the gust speed measured at Odiham had climbed to 78mph.
Train commuters into London have been worst hit as services were cancelled to enable the clearance of dozens of fallen trees from railway lines.
