Fireworks warning issued as Hampshire firefighters plan more strikes
BE CAREFUL this November – that’s the message from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service ahead of two days of industrial action.
Firefighters are due to go on strike between 6.30pm and 11pm on Friday, November 1 and between 6am and 8am on Monday, November 4, as part of a row about pension reform.
Assistant Chief Officer Neil Odin said the service is prepared for industrial action, and will maintain around 50 per cent of the fire appliances that it would normally have available.
He added: “But inevitably there is going to be an impact on our usual response times. With the forthcoming celebrations around bonfire night and Diwali, I would urge the public to be especially careful with fireworks and candles to help reduce unnecessary calls.
“There are many well organised fireworks displays in the country this November. We would recommend attending one instead of a celebration at home.”
He also said drivers should take extra care on the road during the second strike period, which takes place during morning rush hour.
