HAMPSHIRE schoolchildren put in a marathon effort to raise money for charity this week.

Ropley CE Primary School hosted four relay marathons on Tuesday (Nov 5) to raise money for this year’s annual chosen charity Save the Children.

Around 180 children took part, with the running club completing a whole marathon at the recreation ground with each child completing approximately one mile.

Years 1 and 2, children up to seven-years-old, ran or walked around the school field once while another children aged seven to 11 in Years 3-6 ran or walked ran in two races around the recreation ground.

It was also a non-uniform day with the school asking for a £1 donation per child.

Headteacher Clare Molyneux said: “It was a brilliant day. It was part of a Save the Children world challenge but the whole point was for the children to demonstrate their fitness.

“It was a double benefit because it promotes activity but also teamwork as some of the faster children helped the slower ones. We’ve never done anything like this before but I think we definitely will do it again.”
