THE latest stage of Marwell Zoo's £450,000 revamp has been given the green light by Winchester planners.
Project managers at the park are working on a major overhaul of Encounter Village, where visitors are invited to get close to some of the zoo's colourful creatures.
The park has been given permission to build various animal enclosures, an Indonesian-style longhouse, raised boardwalk and an archway.
It has also been given the thumbs-up for alterations to existing animal housing and outdoor spaces, children's play area, as well as associated landscaping.
* VISITORS to the zoo will be able to learn all about Madagascar this half-term.
Marwell is supporting the sixth European Association of Zoos and Aquaria conservation campaign, and has pledged to raise £7,500 for the welfare of Madagascan wildlife.
