FOOTBALL: Hampshire League 2004

Keeper Lloyd pulls out the stops.

Upham 1, Michelmersh & Timsbury 1 In a fairly even opening spell, chances were created at both ends with Aaron Brown and Leigh Bishop both coming close with shots just wide for Upham, and M&T coming close with a couple of efforts from free kicks.

Upham began to create the better chances with Stuart Creese floating a cross on to the top of the net and Creese again putting a header on to the crossbar after great work by Wes Allwood to create the opening. Upham took the lead on 35min when Allwood headed on for Oli Crook to collect the ball and run on to fire home an unstoppable shot.

After the break, M&T put Upham under pressure from the start with a header that struck the crossbar from a corner and Gareth Lloyd in the Upham goal had to be alert to save as Upham failed to clear their lines.

M&T pressure paid off and they equalised after four minutes from the penalty spot after Paul Wheeler brought a forward down just inside the area.

Upham continued to create chances with Phil Hastings heading just over from Allwood's free kick, and Leigh Bishop, Stuart Creese, and Allwood all coming close.

Upham looked to have stolen the game late on when Allwood was put clear by Crook to score, but his effort was adjudged to be offside.

M&T pushed forward in the closing minutes, and only two superb saves from Upham keeper Lloyd, one from a loose ball in the area and another from a well struck shot on the turn kept the scores level.

In the end, a draw was the right result for a sporting game well handled by referee Guy Poynter.
