Plea over handbag theft

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a woman had her handbag stolen from the car park at Tesco's, River Way store in Andover on Friday.

The incident took place between 3.45pm and 4pm when a 31-year-old woman was manoeuvring an adult-sized tricycle down a ramp.

"She was approached by a man who offered his assistance," said a police spokeswoman.

"The woman refused. However the man was persistent and she eventually accepted his help.

"As she began to make her way along the pavement she felt something fall out the basket at the back of the tricycle and saw the man steal her handbag. The man ran away towards the traffic lights at Enham Arch."

The bag contained a mobile phone and a wallet with a small amount of cash.

The man is described as white, in his early 20s, around 6ft tall and of average build. He was wearing black trousers, a black hooded top and training shoes.
