It's Christmas time - in Southampton!

SUMMER'S out, autumn has not quite arrived and the children are enjoying their last few days off school.

Hallowe'en and Bonfire Night are still two months away and there's another half-term holiday before the countdown to Christmas really begins.

But at one Hampshire bowling alley Yuletide celebrations are already under way - with a festive tree welcoming customers as they arrive.

The decorations are up, the baubles are glittering and staff are getting into the festive spirit by singing carols.

And it's all in the name of getting people to plan their Christmas early - and book in for their festive parties before the rush begins. Although they admit it is a little early to be decking the halls, staff at the ten pin alley in Bitterne, Southampton, are getting the festive season underway so people don't miss out on their chance of a Christmas bowling party.

Bitterne Bowl is not the only early Christmas craziness.

In Eastleigh, Laura Hedbridge and Jade Robinson have just been crowned as the town's new Snow Queen and Snow Princess.

Certain shops have already started stocking Christmas cards and wrapping paper!

Personally, I'd not to see any Christmas stock in the shops until the first week of November.

This wouldn't prevent people starting to shop any sooner as most gifts themselves aren't actually seasonal. It is only the perishables and peripherals that are specific. e.g. Mince pies and party crackers etc.

Bah humbug!

"Bitterne Bowl is not the only early Christmas craziness."

Not exactly a thinly disguised advert is it? Me I will be going to the place near Millbrook roundabout, now called Tenpin. Hopefully no early Xmas there.

It is charity shops as well - filling their stores with christmas cards and awful items imported, which nobody wants, with all the scares of lead in the paint. These goods do not seem to be regulated anymore. Charity shops sell so many new goods - I hope they are apying full business rates for their shops.

Christmas is in December and it should be kept for December not August.

I will not be going there to bowl specifically because of this ridiculous promotional stunt. It's September for f**ks sake. Losers

I think this is a stupid idea, Ok so christmas cards and wrapping paper no problem, but why do decorations need to be up - there are 4 months to go and people are going to be fed up by the time xmas gets here and it will take the excitement out of it. And talk about confusing the kids, they will only keep asking how many days to go till santa arrives surely????!!!!

Do we have enough Saturdays before Christmas to cater for all the different communities that want a street market outside the entrance to West Quay?

Oh for gods sake!! I have only just got back from my summer holiday and DO NOT even want to think about Christmas for at least another 2 months!!! Jeez, my tan hasn't even started to fade yet! Some people are unreal!!
Sad, sad, sad...............

Oh, what a lot of humbugs!! As a Christian I think Christmas is not promoted enough! Admittedly the commercial side is but the true message of Christmas is lost (that is quite evident from the responses on here!). Yes, "Christmas" as a day is some time away, but surely the sentiment and true meaning should be relevant year through??

This is absolutely ridiculous. Christmas is over 3 months away. I think that it is about time that we confined the decoration of shops and the playing of Christmas music to December. By the time christmas actually arrives people have had enough of it. I avoid shops that have their Christmas decorations up too early and I would urge others to follow suit.I am not a Christmas humbug because I love CHristmas.

How ridiculous, all this for one day!!, because of this next year it will get even earlier keep Christmas in december, the kids get wound up enough without it starting already
