YEAR seven pupils at Winton School had the chance to experience life in the emergency services first hand thanks to a host of special visitors.

Fire engines, police squad cars and a helicopter from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance filled the school field as members of the uniformed services gave the children an eye-opening look at what it means to work in their respective careers.

Headteacher Chris McShane said: "The idea was twofold - firstly to give the year sevens a chance to see what a career might be like in the services and also to give them a chance to meet the different services and build a relationship with them.

"It was an immense success.

"The school would like to say a big thank you to the air ambulance, fire service and constabulary.

"The students thoroughly enjoyed the day and got so much out of it in terms of meeting the services and finding out what kind of jobs they do."
