A MAN suffered a fractured jaw after he went to the aid of a friend involved in an argument.
The 22-year-old man stepped in as his mate argued with a group of people outside a pub in Shirley, Southampton.
He was then beaten around the face with a piece of wood and hit over the head with a sharp implement. His injuries were so serious he was kept in hospital following the attack which happened outside The Park pub in Carlisle Road at 10.30pm on Saturday.
The men had previously been in the nearby Manor pub in Shirley High Street before the incident took place.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the assault to come forward. Anyone with information should call PC Vicky Harrod at Shirley CID on 0845 045 4545.
