THE Pilgrims' School Harry Potter Competition, also known as "Potty about Potter", reached its conclusion when the prizes were awarded by Hugh Mitchell, the actor who plays Colin Creevy in the Harry Potter films.
Hugh was a pupil at The Pilgrims' School when he attended an audition that landed him the role. More productions have since followed including Nicholas Nickleby, Henry VIII, Judge John Deed, The Da Vinci Code and more recently, Waking the Dead.
Hugh, a sixth form student, is also a keen musician and performs with his band Alternative Rock.
During the prize ceremony he answered many questions from the audience and then spent some more time with the winners and their families.
The prize-giving took place in the Pilgrims' Hall at The Pilgrims' School, with the winners and guests from Western Primary School and Harestock Primary.
The category was "The Plot Most Closely Resembling Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows": the judges had to wait for the book to be released in July before searching through around 140 entries from schools across Winchester to find the ones whose plot came nearest to JK Rowling's own.
The winning entries from Western, Harestock and The Pilgrims' School contained some good guesswork, including a correct deduction about Snape's true colours, a depiction of a battle at Gringotts, the death of a particular character and even the role played by Neville Longbottom.
It was an exciting end to a competition that had captured the imaginations of many Winchester schoolchildren.
