NOMINATIONS for Basingstoke hospital's top nursing staff are being called for by the foundation trust's bosses.

Basingstoke and North Hampshire NHS Foundation Trust's annual Director of Nursing Awards have been launched for 2008.

Now patients and visitors are being asked to vote for individual nurses and midwives, or a nursing or midwifery team, who have impressed them.

A special award, to highlight outstanding care, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Basingstoke Deane, will also be presented at the ceremony on July 17.

Donna Green, the hospital's director of nursing, said: "The purpose of these awards is to recognise the hard work, achievements and significant contribution nursing and midwifery staff make to care for all patients.

"In 2008, we will again have a special award to highlight outstanding care.

"We recognise it is often the small things that really make a difference to patients and their families."

She added: "We were delighted with the success of last year's awards when we received more than 150 nominations from the public, and are really looking forward to hearing from our patients, the public and other nominees again this year.

"I would like to encourage members of the public to be involved by nominating a nurse/midwife or nursing/ midwifery team who, in their eyes, really merit this acknowledgement."

Nominations can be made until the end of May, and the winners will be chosen by a panel of judges, including a patient representative.

Nomination forms are available by calling Karen O'Hanlon on 01256 313435, e-mailing karen.ohanlon@bnhft.nhs.uk or from www.northhampshire.nhs.uk
