TWO Southampton businesses have come up with a novel way of raising money for charity this Valentine's Day.
O'Briens sandwich bar and Nex Communications are hoping to raise hundreds of pounds for Wessex Cancer Trust (WCT) by selling chocolate hearts at the London Road eatery.
The funds, together with a £500 contribution from Southampton-based Nex, will help to fund counselling and complementary therapies for cancer patients and their families and carers.
Tim Wellman-Hawke, a spokesman for the WCT, said: "We are thrilled Nex and O'Briens are raising money on such a heartfelt day. We are dependent on donations, so fundraising is vital to the work we do."
The WCT covers Hampshire, Wiltshire, Dorset, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Wight.
The charity has raised more than £11m for different projects, from medical equipment, research and mobile mammography vehicles, to the children's cancer ward at Southampton General Hospital, family grants and holiday breaks.
