THERE was red carpet glamour at Reel Cinemas, Andover, last week when its official opening took place.
Hundreds of people enjoyed a champagne buffet while meeting and greeting the team behind the town's new four-screen multiplex.
An impressive clapper board ice sculpture was displayed giving an extra talking point at the grand occasion.
Mayor of Test Valley, Cllr Brian Page, one of the special guests, was delighted with the result of many months' hard work. "Andover has been without a cinema for a considerable time and we are thrilled to have our own cinema back again," he said.
"I hope people will use it and enjoy the films on show and think of Andover when they want to go to a cinema rather than travelling to Basingstoke or Salisbury."
KC Suri, Reel cinema owner, was delighted at the positive response residents have so far given Reel Cinemas. "I'm thrilled the cinema is back in Andover," he said. "It's definitely what the town needs to move forward in the 21st century.
"I know I can't speak for the public but I really hope they feel the same as me with this cinema - over the moon."
Andover's carnival prin-cess Lauryn Newman, aged nine, was equally thrilled with the new entertainment venue.
"It's great we have a cinema. I love coming to see films," she said.
"I'll be getting my mum to bring me lots of times," she added.
Council leader, Ian Carr said it was fantastic to see the big screen back in Andover and had tremendous faith in Mr Suri.
"Mr Suri was specially selected by the borough council.
"He's just the person to run a cinema in Andover," he added.
