THERE was a real buzz of excitement as Marwell Zoo unveiled its latest exhibition to mark National Insect Week.
Visitors can get a close-up insight into the life of honeybees through live demonstrations, videos and interactive displays.
Experts from Meridian Beekeepers will be on hand until Sunday to explain how a colony of bees work, and at a time when numbers are threatened by a mystery disease, how vital they are to the economy and environment.
"Bees are so important," said Meridian chairman, Alan Johnson.
"They are under threat at the moment, but 80 per cent of all pollination is done by insects, and 80 per cent of that is done by honeybees. Without them we'd have real problems and would have to import a lot more food."
