Bridal shop creditors meeting

A DATE has been set for a meeting for everyone who is owed money by Arvella Bridal in Lyndhurst that closed abruptly last week.

The creditors' meeting will take place on July 14 at 10.30am at the office of insolvency practitioner Nick Peat in Poole.

However he has warned that suppliers and customers who are owed money by the High Street bridal boutique are likely to only get a few pence back for every pound they are owed.

And he said that even if brides have paid for their wedding dresses waiting to be collected in the shop the suppliers could keep them if they have not received any payment from Arvella.

Mr Peat has sent out letters to more than a hundred creditors and is publishing notices outlining details of the meeting which will be attended by Arvella's director Lisa Clarkson.

He said that he is sending his final batch of letters today but that if anyone who is owed money has not heard from him by the weekend they should email him at nickpeat@peatsaccountants.co.uk At the creditors' meeting Mr Peat will read out the business' assets and liabilities before a formal vote is taken to appoint the liquidator.

Those creditors who do not attend can vote by proxy. It is understood that Mrs Clarkson, 33, wants Mr Peat to be appointed the liquidator.

After the meeting Mr Peat will go through the business' books and said it could take months or a couple of years until everything is resolved, depending on whether any wrongful trading is discovered that might require court action.

Since Arvella's closure last Tuesday dozens of brides have contacted The Daily Echo claiming that they paid for dresses that were never ordered or that they were fobbed off with sample dresses.

Suppliers have also said that in many cases they had not received payment from Arvella for dresses that were ready to be sent out.

Mrs Clarkson of Warsash, has apologised for the business's failure but blamed market conditions and suppliers letting her down for her business' demise.

* The creditors' meeting will take place at Peats Accountants, Discovery Court, 551-553 Wallisdown Road, Poole, England. BH12 5AG.

As the majority of this women are mugs and paid for something before they had even seen it, the creditors will have no problems fobbing them off.

ENOUGH ENOUGH ENOUGH ENOUGH

Ok its sad that people have lost money, not had orders fullfilled etc etc, but there are lots of companies that go down the pan every year that upset people who have ordered goods through them. Im sure they dont get the amount of coverage that a small bridal shop in a little town has got.

Let the creditors do their job to recoup the money that is owed to suppliers, goods that are owed to customers. Problem is that its a first come, first served basis and generally nobody is the winner.

Please Echo no more on this subject!!!!!!

You don't have to read it. It's quite clear what it is when you read the headline.

You're the one who made the choice to read all the stories - the Echo didn't force you to.

I see. Thanks Anon. I guess the more you look at it, the more newsworthy it becomes.

I'm sorry for just writing it off instantly, just because it doesn't directly affect me.

Likewise, it's you who chooses to live in a country with a welfare system, but that doesn't stop you whingeing on about it constantly, does it?

I doubt very much that paul b actually posted that comment in the first place.

He has a point though, whoever it was.

How rude are you!!! You obviously know nothing of weddings. this person probably bought her dress, her bridesmaid dresses and the grooms attire and all the grooms attendents attire from this shop. Do not judge people you do not know!

If people are so fed up with this story then why are you reading the forum??? No ons is forcing you to read it!!! Surely you have something better to do. The people who have actually had money stolen from them need a place to speak to others. So just to annoy all those that are sick of hearing about it, I ordered my dress from Arvella and they never ordered with the designer. I intend to go the creditors meeting even if it is to look this woman in the face and ask her what she has been doing with our money! Anyone else intend to go? And for the record its not just a sofa shop we are talking about here where we can just shrug our shoulder and think, oh well, another shop goes under. Its peoples wedding dresses. Shes intentionally ruined peoples wedding day. So bore off all those who are sick of hearing about it - I'm sick of you too!

As a parent of one of the Brides who has had the mis-fortune of being let down by this person. My comments are as follows.
I have seen the misery this has caused and would point out that we bought the dress for my daughter with hard earned money. So to you people who are posting negative comments, I would say, stop and think before you do so. It may happen to you one day.

I have seen the upset this has caused. No, we didn,t pay a fortune but what we did spend took a lot of saving be it pence or pounds, this was our money, worked hard for. For some of you heartless people, it may happen to you one day.

Please, anyone who reads this do not go to A Bride 2 Be in Warsash. Not only are they the rudest people I have ever come across but I have also been advised by a designer that they are suffering financial difficulty and are doing the same as Arvella.
