Developers have provided an update on a housing scheme plagued by delays.

Work on the £132m Bargate Quarter scheme is due to start this summer, according to Legal & General.

The company acquired the Southampton site from Tellon Capital after contractors Henry Construction went into administration.

And now nearly a year since work ground to a halt, the future is looking promising.

A spokesperson for Legal & General said: “This has been an unfortunate situation for all parties involved, and we’re empathetic to those who have been impacted.

“Since taking possession of the site in mid-December 2023, we have been working hard to ensure the efficient delivery of much-needed homes to the city of Southampton.

“We will resolve any ongoing issues in a timely and efficient manner where it is within our power and look forward to recommencing work on site in the summer.”

It is expected people will move into the development – consisting of 519 new homes and 2,515 square metres of commercial space – in 2026.

The progress of the site is set to be shared with city residents in the coming months.

The spokesperson added: ”Once complete, Bargate Quarter will be transformative for the city, providing high-quality homes as well as a new public realm and retail landscape set amongst the historic city walls.”
