BEST friends Amber Mayes and Rebecca Stockwell were celebrating together when they opened their exam results.

The two 18-year-olds from Andover have been best friends since primary school and have gone through their education together.

Amber achieved a B in fine art and a C in sociology at A-level, and a B in media studies at AS-level. Rebecca gained an A in sociology, an A in fine art and a B in film studies.

"We both did better than we expected, especially in sociology," said Amber. The two celebrated by spending the afternoon at Marwell Zoo.

"We're both absolutely thrilled with our results and we're so pleased for each other," added Rebecca.

The girls are now staying at Andover College to do a foundation art course next year.

AS-level student Charlotte Groom was delighted with her results and hopes to knuckle down next year with the aim of getting a degree from Oxford or Cambridge University.

The 17-year-old completed her first year of sixth form with an A in fine art and design, an A in law and a C in English language and literature.

"These results were definitely what I was hoping for," said Charlotte, from Durrington near Salisbury.

The student is keen to study law at degree level and has high hopes of achieving high grades at A2-level to secure places at top universities.

"I may have to resit a few English modules but I'll get my head down and concentrate even more next year," she said.

Ashley Roots, from Shrewton, was overjoyed with his straight A results in two A-levels and one AS-level.

The 18-year-old, who studied maths and physics at A2 and further maths at AS, was also celebrating achieving a distinction in a BTEC National Award in Business. Ashley now plans to take a gap year before going to university to study a joint degree in maths and physics.

Ashley said: "I've done so much better than I was expecting and I'm really looking forward to spending my gap year working for my uncle's computer company."

Triple B student Scott Gurd is ecstatic at his results because it is exactly what he wanted to get into Bath Spa University to study business management.

The 18-year-old studied maths, business studies and media studies and thought he'd done well in his business studies.

"I was expecting the B in business studies but the other two were a real surprise," said Scott, from Salisbury.

"It's a great day as I got what I wanted and I'm really pleased with myself. I can now breathe a sigh of relief that I can go where I want for university."

Emily Bradwell, from Durring-ton, was pleased with her AS results but feels she could have done better so is determined to use it as motivation for her second year. The 17-year-old scored a B in English, a C in art and a D in maths.

"I feel I could have done a lot better but I think it's going to be a driving force for me to improve next year," she said.

Emily, who originally wanted to become an architect, has decided to keep an open mind and just wants to concentrate on her A2-levels.

"My advice to other people out there who, like me, didn't get the results they were hoping for, is not to let it get you down," said Emily.

"Use them as motivation for the next part of the courses."
