Luck of the draw sends Romsey away

ROMSEY Town have missed out on the luck of the draw in their first two knock-out competitions of the season.

They have been given away ties in the first two qualifying rounds of the FA Vase, which gets under way tomorrow, and the Hampshire Senior Cup.

The Vase draw gave them a trip to fellow Wessex League Premier Division side Alresford Town, promoted with them from Division 1 last season.

While Romsey will aim to continue the impressive defensive form which earned them a goal-less draw against fourth-in-the-table Fareham Town at the Bypass Ground on Saturday, Alresford will be smarting from a run of six successive defeats which has seen them concede 20 goals.

They did come close to picking up their first point of the season when they were pipped 2-1 after grabbing a shock league against title-chasing VT FC who won 2-0 at Romsey four days earlier.

For tomorrow's game, Romsey will be without Phil Proudley (hamstring strain) and Lewis Wyeth (ankle injury). Wyeth went on after Proudley had been injured in the game against Fareham, but he was also injured. Tom Donaldson (thigh strain) and Jamie Hookway (foot injury) are also injured.

If Romsey do get the better of Alresford, they face an away trip - and it could be a long one. In the second qualifying round, they have been drawn away to the winners of the tie between Bristol Manor Farm and Fareham Town.

In the Hampshire Senior Cup, Romsey cross the Solent on Tuesday night to play East Cowes Vics.
