THIEVES have stolen toys stored in Basingstoke for terminally-ill children.
The toys were destined for Naomi House Children's Hospice, in Sutton Scotney, and had been donated by The Walt Disney Company to local charity The Link.
David Kamsler MBE, who runs The Link charity single-handed, said: "It is a dreadful thing to do as some of the toys would have been ideal for the children - they would have been delighted with them."
He said the two boxes of stolen goods were all branded and included toys, interactive books and clothes.
The 83-year-old added: "It was for their enjoyment and to help with their quality of life."
Police say a witness saw two youths entering the garage in Gershwin Road, Brighton Hill, between 1.30pm and 2.30pm on Tuesday, August 19.
Pc Kate Towerton, from Basingstoke police station, said: "These items should have been distributed to charity but have been stolen by callous thieves.
"I would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the burglary, or anyone who has been offered Walt Disney items for sale, as they may have information that can help us with our investigation."
The two youths were seen walking away from the garage towards the nearby shopping precinct.
The first is described as white, aged about 17, 5ft 8ins tall and of large build with short brown hair. He had a bicycle with him.
The second is also about 17, of similar height, with almost-white spiky hair. He was wearing a blue jacket and carrying a black rucksack with a white logo Anyone with any information is asked to contact Pc Towerton, at Basingstoke police station, on 0845 045 4545 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Cynic...just because it doesn't say anything about a forced entry, doesn't mean there wasn't one! Ever heard of word limits for newspaper articles?? I wouldn't say it is a sob story, more a sad reflection on how society is today. I actually think this sort of thing is disgusting!

Last week it was pet food stolen from an animal sanctuary in Southampton. This week it is toys stolen from a children's charity in Basingstoke. Am I being cynical, or are we already in the run up to Christmas with such sob stories?
I'm sure teenagers, yobs or not, have better things to do than think about Mickey Mouse and Eeyore. One of them apparently had a bicycle ... have you ever tried cycling while carrying a (presumably) large box at the same time?
And one more thing sounds rather suspicious if you ask me. The toys were presumably stored in an UNLOCKED garage because there are no reports of a forced entry (at least no public reports).
I'm sure the 83 year old does a good job for charity, but if he forgot to lock the garage door perhaps he forgot where he put the boxes too!
